1 Job Orientation
1.1 When did you decide on doing vocational training in IT?
In my first training I learned dentist technician. I wanted to change job and completed a re-education as IT-Officer. The training started in January 2000 and ended in January 2002.
Learning in this occupation did not stop. Today I am Examiner. I check customer processes and give suggestions for improvement. Our company works according to the ISO standard and I am responsible for the compliance with regulations. It is fun working with tools that show the processing steps.
1.2 Why do you think did you choose this specific education?
I bought my first computer during my dentist technician training. My interest in IT grew and so I went to the job centre to get more information about vocational opportunities.
1.3 Who supported you doing your career decision phase?
My parents and several of my friends supported me. In counselling interviews I got much information about IT.
1.4 What is needed to change career counselling?
You have to observe the market and take the initiative.
I think it’s an advantage to compare notes with other people who are in the same situation.

2.1 Did your expectations and wishes about the vocational training come true?
Yes, the learning contents were very interesting and diversified. This offers the possibility to get employed in different industries.
2.2 What is it what you especially like in your vocational training?
In my vocational education I liked the way we learned. Many skills did not focus on specification. The pupils were requested to cooperate.
2.3 Would you choose the same vocational training again?
Yes, my decision was correct!
2.4 You have the chance to do advertisement for your profession. Please give us some good reasons why to choose this job.
One of the principal reasons is the variety of this profession. If you also add commercial training, many opportunities are available. This job does not only mean programming or screwing. You rather talk to costumers and support them.
Further, the IT environment never stands still. There are always innovations and changes.
3 Differences women and men
3.1 Women are still underrepresented in IT profession, why do you think this is the case?
Many people think that the IT industry is a male domain and that women are not able to think logically It is however a prejudice that the IT industry is exclusively technical. A competent customer service also belongs to the IT profession.
3.2 What are some typical prejudices which maybe also appeared to you?
Prejudice number one is: Women and technique is a contradiction in itself. Number two is: Women get less money.
3.3 What would you advice girls who also want to go into IT?
Forget all the prejudices and concentrate on your strengths. You can do everything you want to do. Where there's a will, there's a way.
