The UKRC has announced plans to launch a new online database that will help put women at the forefront of science communication and raise the profile of thousands of scientists, engineers and technologists in the UK. It is anticipated that over 2000 women will sign up to the database within the next 18 months alone.
The new database is the latest development in the UKRC's strategy to raise the profile of women in SET. The database will be the biggest of its kind in the UK and will help assist the Government in reaching its target of 40% female representation on SET related bodies by 2008. Women registering with the database will be supported in their efforts to communicate science to a wider audience with a range of networking and career development opportunities.
